Allahabad University students demand reduction in fee hike; the protest continues

Students of Allahabad University sitting on a fast to protest against the fee hike for the last 70 days took out a ‘Jan Aakrosh March’ on Tuesday to demand the restoration of the students’ union and revocation of up

“Apart from the demand for withdrawal of fee hike, the students have also launched an agitation against the illegal appointment of Vice-Chancellor Sangeeta Srivastava,” said student leader Ajay Yadav Samrat.

The students have been on hunger strike for 70 days but the vice-chancellor doesn’t even care. They are not deviating from their dogged attitude, he alleged.

Samrat is part of the group of students sitting on hunger strike for the past 70 days.

On Tuesday, a large number of students gathered at the student union building for the march, holding placards and raising slogans.

Police and administration officials remained with the students during the march to ensure that there were no untoward incidents.

The students have alleged that the undergraduate course fees, which were Rs 975 a year, have been increased by more than 300 percent to Rs 4,151.
