Education News: Top News Makers of the Week: NEET, DU Admissions, THE, IIT Rankings & More

A lot of things happened in the education sector this week, NMC announced the academic session for the incoming MBBS students. NEET PG counseling process for two states is underway. The rankings were announced and six IITs boycotted it. Delhi University added a new feature on the dashboard for undergraduates to check provisional ranks. Here’s everything that happened this week:

NEET

The National Medical Commission (NMC) issued a notification stating that the academic session for incoming MBBS students will begin on November 15 and all other holidays or breaks and examination timings will be arranged in accordance with the affiliated universities of the respective universities.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah released three-subject Hindi textbooks for MBBS students as part of the Madhya Pradesh government’s project to impart medical education in the Hindi language.

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has released the revised cut-off list for the MDS 2022 National Eligibility Test with Entrance Test (NEET). Candidates can check the new cut offs from the official website — natboard.edu.in.

Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University, Dehradun has started the registration for Uttarakhand NEET PG Counseling 2022. Candidates can register at the official website: hnbumu.ac.in. The last day to register for the first round of counseling is October 17.

The office of the chairman of NEET PG 2022 admission/counseling board, Government Dental College (RUHS College of Dental Sciences), Jaipur has released the provisional seat matrix after the first round on 15th October. Candidates who did not register earlier can now register at rajneetpg2022.com. The last day to pay the application fee is October 18 at 5:00 p.m. The last date for submitting the online application form is 18th October at 11:45 PM.

THE RANKINGS

The Times Higher Education (THE) rankings were announced and among Indian institutions, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) retained its top position. The general rank of IISc was between 251 and 300 ranks. Globally, the University of Oxford has become the best institute among 1,799 universities in 104 countries, according to the statement from THE.

Meanwhile, the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Mumbai, Delhi, Kanpur, Madras, Roorkee and Kharagpur boycotted the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings for the third consecutive year over lack of transparency.

DU admissions

Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET) – National Testing Agency issued admit cards 2022. Candidates can download the admit cards from the official website: nta.ac.in. The tests will be held from October 17 to 21.

Delhi University has closed its registration window for degree programmes. They also added another feature called “Mock Rankings” to the candidate dashboard. The feature will help the candidates to calculate their provisional ranks determined by the preferences submitted by the candidates till October 13.

Delhi University is likely to open an entry window in November for candidates who did not apply for admission to degree programmes, a university official said.

IIT News

The plan to set up Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) campuses in Abu Dhabi, Tanzania and Malaysia has been launched within a year, on schedule, key officials said.

IIT Madras has started enrolling students for seven courses, who want to build a career in banking and financial services. Candidates can check all the details and register for the courses at the official website: iit.infactpro.com.

IIT-Mandi along with the National Skills Development Corporation (NSDC) launched a six-month certificate and a nine-month advanced certificate program in the fields of data science and machine learning. The program will start in the first week of November.

IIT Madras, in collaboration with the US Consulate General in Chennai and the Indian Space Association, is organizing a three-day space technology conclave from October 15-17.

Teacher eligibility test

Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test conducted by Tamil Nadu Teacher Recruitment Board is going on. The exams started on October 14th and will continue until October 19th. The tickets for the October 19 exam have been released today (October 16). Candidates can download their admit cards from the official website of TN TRB – trb.tn.nic.in.

The Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha has invited applications for the Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) 2022 for teacher aspirants. Interested candidates can now apply for this eligibility test at the official website of BSE Odisha – bseodisha.ac.in. The deadline to submit the application is October 19.

The registration process for Gujarat Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2022 will start on October 21. The notification of concern will be released soon by the state education department.

Study abroad

The Embassy of India has issued a travel advisory for Indian nationals planning to return to Ukraine. He advised Indians to avoid any non-essential travel to the war-torn country.

The Medical Higher Education Institutes (MHEI) of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine are offering 2000 places to transfer Indian medical students from Ukraine, at the request of the Indian government.

The Center may raise the guarantee limit for education loans from Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh in a bid to push public sector banks (PSBs) to increase disbursements amid complaints of delays in sanctioning and rejection of loan applications. Currently, education loans up to Rs 7.5 lakh are backed by a credit guarantee fund, which means banks do not seek any collateral for loans up to the guaranteed amount.

According to a report on international migration patterns by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, Indian students studying in economically developed countries are more likely to stay in their host country and join the local workforce.

Two government schools in Delhi, bagged the first and second ranks in the rankings published by Education World (EW). Government-run Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, Sector 10, Dwarka bagged the first rank and Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya, Yamuna Vihar, came second.

The registration process for class 9 of Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya through JNV Selection Test (JNVST) was closed on 15th October. The exam will be held on February 11, 2023.
