IGNOU, ICCR and CHD to offer basic Hindi awareness program for foreign nationals

The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) today signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and the Central Directorate of Hindi (CHD) to provide basic Hindi awareness program in three-month line for foreign citizens.

The program will start on November 16 and till date ICCR has received 226 applications from nine countries namely Thailand, China, Mauritius, Indonesia, Vietnam, Iran, Taiwan, Philippines and Romania for the program from abroad .

Students who are willing to learn Hindi, can register through their embassies or register through the ICCR website. All students who have enrolled so far have enrolled through embassies.

The course is likely to end on February 15. At the end of the course, students will receive a certificate. There could be 200 to 250 students in a class. They will be provided with audiovisual material, study material, etc. by IGNOU.

By now there are 226 students in the first group.

IGNOU Vice-Chancellor Professor Nageshwar Rao said the University is committed to promoting Hindi worldwide with the use of technology. The university has been using technology interventions, SWAYAM Prabha as well as IGNOU’s in-house television channel ‘Gyan Darshan’ to reach out to people across the globe and in different vernacular languages.

Meanwhile, IGNOU has also recently launched a master’s program in Arabic. The two-year program will be taught in Arabic and English.
