IIM Kozhikode may soon open a campus in Dubai: Director

The Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode (IIM-K) hosted its first ‘Master Class’ in Dubai (UAE) recently. Around 100 participating leaders from the corporate world: CEOs, CXOs, educational leaders, health professionals from the GCC countries were part of this exclusive workshop.

Prof. Debashis Chatterjee, two-time director of the Institute, also revealed that the institute now plans to take the Indian Institutes of Management brand to the world. The director shared that the management school is currently in talks with various stakeholders in the UAE to internationalize the management brand with the growing Indian influence on the global stage.

“We see Dubai as a place for business experimentation and innovation. So if you embed a school here, our faculty will also be exposed to the global stage. So it makes sense for IIM to be here. In many aspects, one of which is Dubai is a cosmopolitan place everywhere. We recognize that the number one basis for innovation is diversity. Uniformity is a killer,” he said.

He also added that even with the physical complications experts are aware of, he hopes digital can be the perfect launch pad for IIM Dubai’s global foray.

The institute has also recently added 50 supernumerary seats for outstanding foreign students, aiming to align IIM Kozhikode’s motto of “Globalizing Indian Thought” with the government’s “Study in India” program of India

“Currently, there are mid-career bureaucrats and diplomats from 30 different countries under the Ministry of External Affairs who are training in Kozhikode to see how India creates innovation and social capital. This is gaining momentum as India is increasingly becoming an aspirational space for many countries. They look to us to guide them on how to move their country forward,” he added.
