A total of 118 Indian universities have again featured in the QS Asia University Rankings this year. Five Indian Institutes of Technology along with IISc and Delhi University have made it to the prestigious group of top 100 institutes in Asia. IIT-Bombay has improved its position from 42nd to 40th place last year, followed by this year IIT Delhi (46) i IIT Madras (59).
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore is ranked 52 followed by IIT Madras (53), IIT Kharagpur (61), IIT Kanpur (66) and University of Delhi (85), according to published data today for Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a classification authority based in the United Kingdom.
Apart from these, IIT Roorkee, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), BITS Pilani have also secured a place in the top 200 this year.
Among the top 10, five universities are from China. Peking University has secured the first position followed by National University of Singapore (NUS) Singapore in second place and Tsinghua University, China in third position.
The QS Asia University Rankings highlights the best universities in Asia each year. The rankings are based on 11 indicators including academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio and international research network, among others.
In the 2022 ranking, IIT Bombay had dropped from 37th position to 42nd position in the Asian ranking. However, the number of universities appearing in the ranking remained the same in 2022 and 2023. Peking University was ranked first this year and ranked second in the QS Asia 2022 ranking.
