The Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IITK) and William Marsh Rice University, USA, today signed a cooperation agreement. IIT Kanpur already has a Rice-IITK on campus Collaborative Center that works in the areas of sustainable energy, materials, water, alternative fuels, etc.
This new agreement offers the two universities new ways to work towards collaborative teaching, training and research in areas of mutual interest. As part of this agreement, IIT Kanpur and Rice University will explore opportunities for student exchange activities; joint research and publications; and the organization of joint conferences and workshops involving academics, policy makers and business leaders from around the world.
Academically, the agreement will lead to the development of undergraduate or graduate units of work jointly taught by IIT Kanpur and Rice University faculty; and the establishment of a joint doctoral/master’s/degree-master’s program.
The agreement sets the guidelines for the two universities to develop joint research and broad academic engagements in the areas of engineering, science, medicine/health, humanities and management/business.
The initial phase of engagements will focus on the areas of Energy/Environment, Health/Biomedical Sciences/Biomedical Engineering and Data Science/Information Technology/Computer & Engineering.
