The National Program for Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), IIT Madras, is collaborating with the Madras Dyslexia Association (MDA) to provide a remedial program for dyslexic children studying in Tamil. This program is offered in online mode, completely free through NPTEL.
MDA has designed and developed ‘Tamil Vazhi Payirchi’ to enable identification and intervention of dyslexic children studying in Tamil medium primary schools.
MDA has designed and developed ‘Tamil Vazhi Payirchi’ – a complete package to address the remedial needs of these children. It includes a screening tool that can be administered in a Tamil medium primary class, a recovery kit and a training program that equips teachers with strategies they can teach to children with dyslexia.
Remedial education is a structured and multimodal program guided by an individualized educational plan. This plan builds on the child’s strengths to provide strategies for coping with needs/difficulties. At Madras Dyslexia Association, remedial teaching is based on the Orton-Gillingham approach and seamlessly integrates with the multiple intelligences approach.
