IIT Madras students register ‘strong’ pre-placement offers, amid IT layoffs

Despite major layoffs across the globe in the IT sector, the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-Madras) claims to have recorded a strong pre-placement performance this academic year with offers increasing during 2022- 23.

According to data shared by the institute, nearly 333 PPOs (as on November 13) have been made to IIT Madras students during the academic year 2022-23, as against 231 offers in the entire 2021-22. The number is only expected to increase until Dec. 1, when the first phase of high school campus placement will begin.

This year, 44% of students have received pre-internship offers (PPOs) in core and R&D, 30% in analytics/consulting/finance, 16% in IT and 10% in FMCG. Top recruiters are Qualcomm (19), Honeywell (19), Microsoft (17), Goldman Sachs (15), Texas Instruments (14) and Oracle (13).

A total of 122 companies have registered, 203 profiles have been registered, 1,397 students have registered for this year’s campus internship process.

The institute believes that the main reason for the good performance in the pre-installation process is “a strong internship program of the institute”. This process makes it easier for students to get internships in companies and leads to PPO. The steady increase in PPO is a result of the students’ excellent performance during their placements, according to a release from IIT-Madras.
