Looking for the right machine learning course? Here are 10 questions answered

Almost 87% of Indian companies are likely to increase their annual spending on artificial intelligence (AI) by more than 10% in the next three years, according to a recent report by Bain & Company in ·collaboration with Microsoft. Most industries that work with large amounts of data have recognized the value of machine learning technology that simplifies their work and increases efficiency. Hence, the demand for technology-savvy professionals.

While the concepts of AI and ML are related to computer science, their functionality extends to all domains. If you are considering a career in machine learning, here are some important questions to answer:

Q: Who can take a machine learning course? Is there a defined eligibility criteria?

Answer: Anyone with adequate programming and math prerequisites can take ML courses. There are no defined eligibility criteria. Whereas for certificate courses, there may be set of minimum eligibility criteria that may include prior study of mathematics and programming languages.

Q: What is the difference between ML and AI programs?

Ans-ML is more data science oriented and AI is more strategy driven. Like ML is mainly used in big data applications while AI is used in applications like robotics.

Q: What is the course structure for programs focused on machine learning?

Answer: Typical course structure includes Python programming, linear algebra, probability and statistics, machine learning basics, and advanced machine learning topics.

Q: Can a commerce or humanities student pursue machine learning after class 12?

Res- Not preferred. They can follow it as a tool that can be used in the context of decision making. There are courses like AI for managers etc suitable for commerce or management graduates.

Q: How important are online ML courses?

Answer: Online machine learning courses are most relevant in the context of professional development and capacity building. They will be more useful for those who are already busy.

Q: How is the ML crash course available online different from the certificate courses offered by IITs?

Ans-ML crash courses available online are not very elaborate and are available in fragments with weak assessment strategies. Whereas, the certification courses offered by IITs are well planned, well structured and properly evaluated, which can be practically applied.

Q: What career opportunities are available for this program?

Answer: The course has a wide range of career opportunities available for ML/AI specialists like Data Scientist, ML Engineer, Natural Language Processing (NLP) Scientist, BI Developer etc.

Q: What is the average salary for candidates who take this program?

Answer: The average salary varies by industry. In start-ups it is a little less, but the work is challenging. On the other hand, in banking and other sectors the package is more. The average salary is around 12 lakh per annum.
