Shahrukh Khan Scholarship: La Trobe University is once again launching a scholarship named after the Bollywood actor

Shah Rukh Khan Scholarship Relaunch: Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan has teamed up with the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IIFM) and La Trobe University to re-launch a scholarship for Indian students pursuing a PhD at the Australian university. Interested candidates have until September 23 to apply for the scholarship on the official La Trobe University website. latrobe.edu.au.

The main criteria for selecting candidates for this four-year research grant valued at more than $225,000 (AUD). The candidate should be a woman of Indian nationality who should be resident in India and has completed her Master’s degree by research within the last 10 years. The selected student will receive a free four-year research grant from La Trobe University.

Step 1: Visit La Trobe University Official Website — latrobe.edu.au.

Step 2: Click on the “Industry & Community” drop-down menu

Step 3: Under ‘local and global complication’, click the link for ‘associations’.

Step 4: After that click on “Indian Thread Festival” link and then “Shah Rukh Khan”.

Step 5: Click on the ‘Express Your Interest’ button and fill all the required credentials and details and submit the application form.

Candidates will be notified if they have successfully submitted a complete application for the Shah Rukh Khan La Trobe University PhD Scholarship by 11 November. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously studied outside India at a university level.

Eligibility criteria for the doctoral scholarship

To be eligible for this scholarship, interested candidates must be Indian master’s aspirants with a desire to undertake one of the eight PhD research projects offered by La Trobe University. Candidates should have achieved a high level of achievement, including a Master’s degree by research in a relevant discipline completed within the last 10 years, and have been assessed as equivalent to a La Trobe University Master’s degree by research degree level of 70 or higher. They should be a citizen of India and it should be a permanent and principal residence in India.

The first scholarship was announced at the 2019 festival of which SRK was the chief guest. He had visited the university to launch this scholarship program. Soon after, India’s Gopika Kottantharayil Bhasi from Thrissur in Kerala was awarded the maiden scholarship. However, due to the pandemic and travel restrictions, it was stopped last year.

La Trobe University says this scholarship was the most requested for a scholarship with over 800 applicants and therefore the scholarship has been presented courtesy of the festival that facilitated it.
