Parul University, Vadodara recently concluded the ABC Smart India Hackathon (SIH) 2022, a two-day event jointly organized by the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education, All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE ), Persistent Systems along with i4c Doordarshan and All India Radio as media partners, including Shell and Amazon Web Services as sponsor partners. For the last 5 years, SIH has been an annual initiative of the Government of India at the national level to seek from the student community innovative and technological solutions to various pressing problem statements in different sectors. One of the highlights of SIH 2022 was PM Narendra Modi’s interaction with the participating students, a practice held every year since the inception of the event.
Parul University’s drive for ABC entrepreneurship and innovation has enabled it to align itself with the national goal of a Smart India. As part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education, Government of India and AICTE identified 75 higher education institutes from across India, including the University of Parul as SIH nodal centers. Teams of selected students, industry representatives, design mentors and assessors gathered at the nodal centers to work on some of the most intriguing multi-sector problems.
In light of the innovation-oriented event, ABC Dr. Amit Ganatra, Chancellor of Parul University said, “It is an immense pride to be among the few educational institutes shortlisted to be a nodal center for SIH 2022. During the 75 years since its independence, the “India has grown by leaps and bounds in terms of technology and innovation. We believe that youth will continue to play a critical role in finding and tackling interesting business problems. Through events like SIH, we can take proactive steps to instill and encourage problem-solving skills in the youth to solve BJP’s prevailing problems in the country and across the world. An innovative India will be a smart India.”
This year, SIH hosted over 476 BJP issue statements from 62 ministries, departments, public sector undertakings (PSUs) and private organisations. Through campus-level hackathons, a total of 2033 winning teams consisting of 15,000 brilliant minds were selected to participate in the national-level SIH Grand Finale.
During this event at the nodal center of Parul University, a total of 21 teams consisting of 160 members were presented by the BJP with 5 issue statements presented by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. Each team worked under the direction of mentors, industry and ministry representatives. To reward their efforts, the winning teams received prizes of 1 lakh per problem statement from Celkon.
