Teacher’s Day 2022: On the occasion of Teacher’s Day, the University Grants Commission (UGC) will announce several research programs that will benefit higher education institutions across the country.
The new scholarships will be launched tomorrow at 3 PM i.e. 5th September on UGC online portals. Here is a list of the UGC Research Grants and Fellowships Programmes:
Scholarship for retired teachers
This scholarship is being launched to provide research opportunities to retired professors. There are 100 seats available for this scholarship and the selected candidates will get Rs 50,000 per month as part of the scholarship and Rs 50,000 per year as contingency.
Eligibility: Interested candidates should be maximum 67 years of age. Candidates should have successfully supervised the PhD theses of 10 full-time candidates, three of whom received their degrees within the previous 10 years. Likewise, the applicant must have managed, as principal investigator, at least three sponsored research projects funded by national/international agencies. In addition to this, the candidates should not undertake any administrative responsibility during the tenure of the scholarship, which would be from the date of retirement.
The duration of this scholarship will be three years or up to the age of 70, whichever comes first.
Research grant for teachers in service
The purpose of this fellowship is to provide research opportunities to regularly appointed faculty members, and the amount of program support is Rs 10 lakh to be provided to 200 selected candidates for a tenure of two years.
Eligibility: Interested candidates should be maximum 50 years of age with minimum 10 years of service in the college/institution as on the date of submission of their application. In addition, candidates should have successfully supervised a PhD thesis of five full-time candidates and completed at least two sponsored research projects funded by national/international government or private agencies.
Dr. DS Kothari Research Fellowship for Newly Joined Professors
The fellowship will provide research opportunities for regularly appointed faculty members. The amount of support under the program is Rs 10 lakh which will be provided to 132 selected candidates for a tenure of two years.
Eligibility: Interested candidates must be newly appointed assistant professors with tenured positions, must have a doctoral degree with a minimum of five research papers, and must apply within two years of the date of joining the position.
Dr. Radhakrishnan UGC Postdoctoral Fellowship
UGC launches this scholarship with the aim of providing an opportunity to pursue advanced studies and research in science, engineering and technology, humanities and social sciences including languages in Indian universities/institutions. Although this scholarship has 900 places, 30% of these places are reserved for female candidates. Selected candidates will receive Rs.50,000 per month as part of the scholarship and Rs.50,000 per annum as contingency.
Eligibility: Candidates applying for this scholarship must be unemployed candidates with a PhD degree and must be applying for a UGC Postdoctoral Fellowship for the first time. They must have a minimum of 55 percent of the marks or equivalent at postgraduate level; there is a 5 percent relaxation for reserved and transgender categories.
It is necessary for the candidate to identify a mentor/supervisor for their postdoctoral research work and obtain their consent for mentoring. Candidates should be less than 35 years (in general category) and 40 years if applying for reserved/women/transgender categories.
Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Scholarship for Unmarried Girl
The scholarship, which aims to promote the education of unmarried girls and encourage research work leading to the obtaining of a doctorate degree, has no fixed limit of places. This scholarship has a total duration of five years.
Eligibility: Any unmarried girl child pursuing Ph.D in any course/subject in recognized Universities/Institutes/Institutes, who is enrolled in a full-time Ph.D. programme, can apply for this scholarship. Candidates should be less than 40 years (in general category) and 45 years if applying from reserved categories.
