The Karnataka II PUC supplementary exam records only 37% pass percentage.

Karnataka II PUC Supplementary Result 2022: The Pre-University (PU) board on Monday announced the results of the supplementary examination that was held between August 12 and 28. According to the court, a total of 1,85,415 candidates were registered, 1,75,905 appeared, 65,233 passed and 9,510 were absent. However, the pass percentage was recorded at 37.08 percent.

A total of 24,530 students passed in arts, 20,124 in commerce and 20,579 in science. Girls topped with a pass percentage of 40.30% compared to boys who recorded 34.91%.

In the PU results which were declared in June, the pass percentage was recorded at 61.88% where out of 6,83,563 students who appeared only 4,22,966 passed. With 2,60,597 failed students, only 1,75,905 appeared for the supplementary examination and thus 84,692 students were left out of the PU system.

Also, out of 1,75,905 who appeared for the supplementary exam, 1,10,672 students failed, leaving a whopping 1,95,364 students who failed the PU exam this year.

A senior education official said it was a “worrying” trend because most students would not have taken the exam seriously, while some would have neglected academics to join a skilled profession.

“There is no one to train the students who appear for the supplementary tests, as it involves more self-learning. Some would not have taken the exam seriously, while some would have chosen to work in a skilled trade. However, the problem lies in the system where industry and institutions are not able to capitalize on the aptitude and interest of students from the very beginning. Not all students can excel academically. It is essential that parents, teachers and the industry work in sync to identify areas of concern for students and work to improve them effectively,” said the official.

Commenting on the current trend of PU students’ performance in the exam, R Ramachandran, director, PU board, said, “Normally, the pass percentage in PU exams is low. However, no I can comment on whether this is a worrying trend or not.”
