UGC changes PhD requirements, DU admissions 2022, NEET counseling and more: Education News This Week

A lot has happened in the education sector during the past week. The Supreme Court passed several orders on NEET PG counselling, EWS quota and asked the Center about the status of students returning to Ukraine. The UGC scrapped the mandatory rule for publishing research papers in peer-reviewed journals and more. Check out this week’s latest events.


IIT Delhi Dean (Planning) PV Rao said in a press conference that the institution has received funds in part. The EWS Bill was introduced in January 2019 and reserved 10 percent quota for economically weaker sections. The Center approved more than 2.14 lakh additional seats in 158 centrally funded institutions at a cost of Rs 4,315 crore.

The UGC also issued instructions to all central universities, colleges and deemed universities “whose maintenance charges are borne by the UGC” for the implementation and compliance of the newly introduced fee policy. The total allocation, Rs 1,000 crore, was allocated to the 23 IITs.

Private higher education institutions (HEIs) said any move to mandate reservation for EWS in their admission process will be met with resistance.


The University Grants Commission has scrapped the mandatory requirement to publish research articles in peer-reviewed journals before the final submission of a PhD thesis.

Until now, it was mandatory for MPhil scholars to present at least one research paper at a conference or seminar, while PhD students were required to publish at least one research paper in a peer-reviewed journal and make two conference or seminar presentations before the ‘sending your thesis for adjudication.

UGC President M Jagadesh Kumar said that with this new move, they have recognized that the ‘one size fits all’ approach is not desirable.

The proposed Higher Education Commission of India (HECI), which will subsume the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), is likely to have wide criminal powers. The government is considering authorizing it to impose fines of up to Rs 5 crore and also to proceed against officials of institutions found to have committed violations.

Meanwhile, UGC has transferred three scholarship programs to its concerned ministries, the scholarships are:-

–National Scholarship for SC (NFSC) at the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
–National Scholarship for OBC (NFOBC) at the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment
–Maulana Azad National Scholarship in the Ministry of Minority Affairs

University of Delhi

Delhi University released the admissions schedule for CSAS third round. Admissions for the third round of CSAS will start today from 5 pm. Candidates will have time to block their election from 10am on November 14th until 4:59pm on November 15th. Application verification and approval will take place from November 14 at 4:59 p.m. on November 16.

Also, the University released the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB) third cut-off list.

The National Testing Agency released the Delhi University Entrance Test (DUET) 2022 answer key along with question papers and answer sheets.

The Faculty of Law, University of Delhi invited students to lodge complaints regarding discrepancies in the marks of semester 2, 4 and 6 exams.


The Supreme Court directed all states and union territories to complete the second round of NEET PG counseling by 6 pm on November 16. The court further ordered that the authorities will have to submit the data to the Medical Advisory Committee on the same day. The court further added that the counseling for the clearing round will be conducted by the competent authority after the completion of the second round of counselling.

The MCC also extended the date of registration and fee payment for NEET PG 2022 clearing round to November 13. Applicants can register until 11 a.m. on November 13, and pay fees until 3 p.m. on the same day. day.

Meanwhile, NEET PG schedules from April to May next year could be the last such exam for PG medical courses. It is likely to be removed by the National Exit Test authorities.


The second round of NEET UG counseling has started. The new registration and payment window has been open until today. The RESET registry option is now closed. Candidates can fill in their options until 16:55 on November 13. They can lock their options until 17:00 of the same day.

MCC also released a list of new seats that have been added in the second round of UG counseling for MBBS courses.

The Director General of Medical Education and Training, Uttar Pradesh has released the second round counseling schedule for UP NEET UG 2022. The online registration will continue till November 14, till 2:00 PM. Students can deposit their guarantee from today until November 15th. Tentative date for declaration of merit list is 14th November.

Odisha Joint Entrance Examination will announce the revised state merit list for the second round of counseling on November 14 at 5 PM.


After eight years, the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) released the marks of candidates who qualified the West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test (WB TET) 2014. The marks were declared after the Superior Court ordered the board to do so. The result notice also stated that reserved category candidates who secured 82 marks and above have also been declared qualified for TET.


Applications for the 2023 National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings are open until November 18. This year NIRF has added one more category: Agriculture and Related Sciences.

Study abroad

The Supreme Court asked the Center to provide information about Ukrainian medical students who availed of its academic mobility program in which they could complete their courses at universities or colleges in other countries.

Meanwhile, Russia has said it is ready to host Indian students who have returned from Ukraine from secondary school can now complete their education in Russia.
