DU admissions 2022: Delhi University (DU) postponed the release of the first merit list late on Monday. According to the new schedule, the first round of seat allocation (which was initially scheduled for Tuesday) will now be released on Wednesday.
The decision came hours before the release of the first merit list based on the CUET UG score.
Why did DU postpone the first merit list?
According to senior DU officials, the merit list has been postponed after the Supreme Court on Monday said it will hear a petition by St Stephen’s College against the Delhi High Court on admission to the college on Wednesday.
DU university has been directed to strictly give 100% weightage to CUET score for admissions to degree programs. However, St Stephens College wants to give only 85% weightage to CUET and 15% to interviews. The Supreme Court heard Stephen’s petition on Monday and observed that the matter “deserves consideration”, after which it was listed for Wednesday.
According to a senior DU official, the university authorities felt that the seat allotment should be brought forward to Wednesday “to avoid any confrontation”.
This matter has come up once again after the Delhi High Court had directed St Stephens University not to conduct interviews for the admission of undergraduate students belonging to the ‘non-minority category’ and , instead, continue with CUET scores. The college has filed an appeal against the decision.
